The Bachelor of Acting Studies is staying. I am honestly stunned by how things turned out but this success belongs entirely to the people who cared enough to sign.

Trinity College Dublin has announced the termination of its Bachelor of Acting Studies, the only degree level actor training programme in the country. This is due to the high cost of the programme and ignores that fact that it has produced distinguished graduates who have made an immense contribution to Dramatic Arts in Ireland and abroad. What an appalling reflection on the second wealthiest country in the world (Human Development Report 2005, UNDP). Our neighbours, the UK, have 22 drama schools which offer degree level actor training programmes, which are accredited by their Conference of Drama Schools. Please Sign the petition, You Don\'t Have to support the actors or indeed the Arts, but a signature for is a signature against Penny Grabbing Nobodys and mediocrity. Contact me on [email protected] Thanks to Christiane for all she has done and for the words.

Arts funding is always the first thing on the chopping block and it really shows in the quality of what we get now.

TRINITY SHOULD BE ASHAMED. Culture matters more than a budget spreadsheet.

This is a disgrace. We are already losing so many talented young artists to London because there is nowhere for them to train at home.

Keep the course open. Theatre is literally who we are as a nation.

My son is a graduate of this programme and his work ethic is amazing. closing this down sets Irish theatre back years.
