Few can argue the immediate benefits of participation in pre-kindergarten programs, which include increased school readiness, improved social skills, and early identification of special needs students.

For Every $1 invested in PreK saves the tax payers $7

The Ball-Chatham school District is in danger of losing its Pre-K program, which as been recognized as a blueprint for other school systems to model. Hundreds of children in the Ball-Chatham community have benefitted from this program. When kids enter kindergarten ready to succeed, the benefits spread rapidly to the K-12 education system, the economy, and public safety. Ultimately, high-quality preschool is an investment that pays significant social and economic dividends in both the short and long run. In the long-term, studies show that children who attend high-quality pre-k are: more likely to graduate from high school; more likely to be employed; more likely to earn a higher income; less likely to need public assistance; more likely to lead healthy lives; and less likely to become involved in crime.

This petition will be sent to Governor Pat Quinn, Senator Larry Bomke, Representative Rich Brauer, Representative Raymond Poe, and the Ball-Chatham School Board.

I have been reviewing the budgetary data to finalize the formal request for the district board meeting. I am also coordinating with several local experts who are prepared to present evidence on the long term economic benefits of maintaining the pre-k program.

The growth of this petition has shifted our position with the school board and opened a direct line of communication for formal negotiations. We are currently preparing a formal letter that outlines the long term economic impact of our program to be presented at the upcoming policy meeting.

My son learned so much here. Cutting this program is a huge mistake for our kids future. Keep it open.

Total short sighted decision. What about the working parents who count on this?

The teachers at the pre-k are the best. My daughter loved every second of it. Dont close it down.

This is ridiculous. The district needs to find the money elsewhere. Don't take it out on the little guys.

If it saves money in the long run why are we even talking about cutting it?? Makes zero sense.
