The University's Merger Implementation Group has recommended that the BA Hons. in Community Arts should close. This follows a period of review agreed after the initial closure recommendation by the Head of Department in mid December. Members of the course team met with the acting Dean of the Faculty, on Tuesday the 16th of February, and were advised of the recommendation and notified that a 30 day consultation period would begin immediately. MIG was minded to recommend that the BA in Community Arts should be withdrawn. There would be no intake for session 2010 (as agreed at the Joint Board of Study on 11 January 2010) and the course should be wound down over the period 2009-2013. However, further discussions and engagements with colleagues in Community Arts and with external stakeholders would need to take place forthwith to consider whether there would be a realistic role for Community Arts in the Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences. Please help SAVE the Community Arts at Strathclyde, a unique degree programme to Scotland and one in five across the entire UK. Without this essential course the entire community arts world will suffer and will affect thousands over the UK.
