Save Anzac Park Toowong from being turned into a construction workforce carpark for Brisbane City Council "Legacy Way" (formerly Northern Link). Friends of Anzac Park are outraged at the proposal to construct a 300 space carpark.

The park is a memorial site, remembering the fallen from the district in the Great War. Along the Wool Street side of the park is a Memorial Avenue of Honour and in past years families have gathered to scatter the ashes of Returned Solders. The Park is also on the Brisbane City Council's Heritage Register and was the site chosen to celebrate BCC project of planting the 'one million tree' in 2010.

On 16 February 2011 BCC distributed a letter indicating that Anzac Park has been refused as a site for a carpark. However, on 25 February 2011 Friends of Anzac Park attended a BCC and community interest groups meeting and were presented visual aerial plans of two options within the park. One of those options being the first proposal that we were lead to believe was 'refused'. To fully understand the destruction to the park images are provided (Options 4 and 5)  - Please refer saveanzacpark.blogspot.com article (Update - Yesterday's Mtg of Workforce Parking Consultation Group posted Friday 25 February 2011).

On 10 November 2010 Lord Mayor Campbell Newman unveiled the official name of what has been known as Northern Link Tunnel to Legacy Way reporting "Brisbane has a strong connection with the defence forces and we believe this is a fitting tribute to them". Yes Cr Newman it most certainly is. Anzac Park is also a 'tribute to them' and more importantly a heritage memorial site. As they say in the Forces -'Retreat' - this is the best option. Legacy and the Queensland RSL would surely agree.
