Professor Gladys McKie, Northeastern University\'s only public relations instructor, and Professor Lincoln McKie, a gifted professor of journalism with a distinguished media career, were informed last week that their contracts would not be renewed after December because they don\'t currently have master\'s degrees.
NU News:
\"Among the classes potentially affected are \"Newsroom Practices,\" in which students write and contribute to the New England Press Association (NEPA) Bulletin, a journalism trade publication; \"Public Relations Principals\" and \"Critical Thinking about Public Relations Strategies.\"
Besides her role as the only public relations instructor in the department, Gladys serves as an advisor for the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA).\"
Gladys McKie is on her way to a PhD--but that doesn\'t matter to Northeastern\'s \"Academic Investment Plan\"
Take a stand right now and tell the university that we won\'t take this anymore!
By signing this petition you are saying \"I do not agree with Northeastern University not renewing the contacts of Gladys and Lincoln McKie in the school of journalism. Their employment should be based on merit and not on academic degrees.\"
The administration is ignoring the fact that our chairs are empty while they focus on arbitrary degree requirements instead of actual industry experience. Email the dean today and demand they recognize the merit Gladys and Lincoln McKie bring to our classrooms. Send this link to three friends who rely on their mentorship.

The momentum behind this campaign is undeniable and it proves the administration cannot ignore our demand for merit over paperwork. Post the link to your Facebook page immediately and text three friends to keep this pressure mounting. Email your department representative right now to tell them these contracts must be renewed.

ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS. their experience in the actual industry is way more valuable than a piece of paper.

Gladys taught me more in one semester than any tenured professor with a fancy degree ever did. This is just wrong.
