Save Old Ballincollig Garda Station
To: Minister John Gormley The Community of Ballincollig is unhappy that in recent years many historical aspects of the town, which are part of the heritage and culture of the place, have been destroyed. The streetscape of Ballincollig has completely changed over the past five years and not all the changes have been for the best. We would like to draw your attention to the latest casualty of modernisation, the demolition of the old garda station, an historic nineteenth century red brick building which has been a landmark in Ballincollig for over a hundred years and a tangible link with its military past. This building, which is due to be demolished to make way for a car park for the new garda station currently under construction, appears to be in good structural condition and could be renovated and incorporated into the site, marrying the new and the old. We the undersigned therefore urge the Minister John Gormley to stop the plan to raze this historic landmark:
