The university has formally reversed its decision and will maintain the linguistics program. Thank you for your commitment to this cause during such an uncertain period. We will continue to monitor the administration to ensure that departmental regulations are respected moving forward.

We the undersigned recognise that the closure of Linguistics courses at Sussex have bypassed all University committees, preventing staff and student scrutiny. We believe that this serves as a dangerous precedent for top-down managerial decisions and holds a significant threat to academic diversity. We the undersigned, demand; -That the University of Sussex Management make a long-term commitment to the continuation of dedicated Linguistic course programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate level. -That any future programme cuts follow the university regulations for withdrawal of programmes, including discussion at school department and school level

The discourse surrounding the future of linguistics at Sussex has gained significant momentum within the academic community. I am currently reviewing the correspondence sent to the administration and preparing a formal summary of our findings.

Management needs to listen to the people actually doing the work. Stop the cuts!

I came to sussex specifically for this course. If they kill it off they are ruining the reputation of the whole school.

Academic diversity matters. Shutting things down behind closed doors is cowardly.

My daughter studied here and the linguistics department was excellent. So sad to see management acting like this. Please reconsider.

Linguistics is such a vital part of the university. You cant just cut a whole department because it doesn't fit some spreadsheet. Keep the courses open!
