The Governor finally backed down and reversed the budget cuts to our community colleges. We forced them to protect access for our students and they had no choice but to listen. Stay alert because we will be watching their future budget cycles to ensure they do not try this garbage …
We acknowledge that budget cuts involve difficult and painful decisions. However, there is an important element of equity and fairness that should be distributed across the higher educational systems. The Governor\'s proposals advocate inequitable cuts to the California Community College system. This will further limit student access for under-represented students in our already under-funded community colleges. We, the undersigned, oppose this approach:
We hit 250 signatures and the Governor still refuses to acknowledge the damage these cuts will cause. This is a pathetic disregard for the students who keep our state running. Keep the pressure on.
