Maximizing recycling efficiency is one step in the increase of biodiversity, the diversity of life. We wish increase awareness of environmental needs of our planet that are necessary for the safety of all life forms. Our hope is that this awareness will lead to further understanding and environmental action. The recent decrease in biodiversity is out of apathy and anthropocentric, or human centered, mindsets. Our objective is to educate the Bakersfield community about alternative methods of recycling that will directly benefit the environment and its creatures. Recycling takes the trash off our precious landscapes and natural habitats. We have the option of enacting a social change for our planet that other life forms are not privileged to have. We hope this petition is an example of our community uniting against the destruction of our earth. The petition will be sent to Harvey L. Hall, the mayor of Bakersfield, in hopes that he will accept our proposal and provide Bakersfield citizens with a recycling bin along with regular trash disposal.
