URGENT APPEAL FROM AUROVILLE RESIDENTS & FRIENDS OF AUROVILLE TO GOVERNING BOARD & INTERNATIONAL ADVISORY COUNCIL Dear Governing Board and International Advisory Council Members, The severe and relentless beach erosion, which started three years ago, is now directly affecting activities and homes at the Auroville communities of Quiet, Repos, Gokulam, Waves, and the villages in between. The beaches are disappearing at an alarming rate! Ocean waves recently destroyed the compound wall of the Quiet Healing Center and swept away more than 25 homes in the neighbouring fishing village of Chinnamudaliarchavady. Repos community has seen its beach drastically reduced in just a few months and residences built along its fence are under direct threat. If no action is taken by the Governments of Puducherry and Tamil Nadu, further irreversible loss and damage will happen in the near future! Faced with this environmental and human disaster, we --undersigned Auroville residents and friends of Auroville-- strongly appeal to you to persuade the Governments of Puducherry and Tamil Nadu to take speedy and adequate measures for restoring the beaches and protecting all affected areas.
