The common rooms are perhaps the single most important aspect of the Zahm community. As a freshman, the common rooms were hugely beneficial in my transition to Notre Dame. Please do not take them away from future Zahmbies.

I'm an '05 Zahm alum. Some of my best memories at ND are from the Zahm common rooms. The common rooms were home to great conversations, late night pizza, and occasionally even homework. The Zahm (and ND) community would not be the same without common rooms.

One of the most important aspects of growth for the First Year of Studies in my opinion is socially. Coming to college we must decide who we wish to become and that can't be achieved without joining groups and making friends. Zahm is the most inclusive dorm on campus due to the environment we uphold. Welcoming any and all into the common rooms allows for friendships to be made and experiences to be had that cannot arise in any other situation. Please leave the common rooms intact for future generations of Zahmbies to call their home.

The common rooms in Zahm are a major factor in what makes it unique as the only "House" on campus. Because of these common rooms I was able to make friends in Zahm, that I now refer to as my best friends. When I transferred to ND and knew no one, it was the common rooms of Zahm that accepted me with open arms.

How can the university achieve a goal of "community" by actively destroying it? This is ridiculous and must be stopped.

If you are looking to destroy a 75- year tradition, heed this no mind. But decades of Zahm men urge you to reconsider.

The common rooms were the best part about Zahm in my 4 years at ND. they're one of the most distinctive and positive ways to make new friends, especially with those in classes above you. I'm not sure I understand why eliminating them would even be up for discussion.

Without the common rooms, I would have never have felt comfortable enough to walk into an upperclassmen room my freshmen year. The common rooms allowed me to make friends with upperclassmen who otherwise I would have not talked to and with whom I would still probably not be friends.

Common rooms allow for students to have a place to stay up and study or relax while their roommates are turning in early or sleeping in

The goal of the Office of Housing to create a safe and memorable experience for the undergraduates. To this end the common rooms in Zahm were vital in creating that experience for me

From what I've seen of the plans, they could destroy the sense of community that makes Zahm so unique. Please spread the word to get signatures.
