I take my nephew to school everyday. He talks about how he loves the school year structure. If the kids are enjoying the layout and doing well, why are they trying to take away what they want?

Good luck and I think this make complete sense. Not everyone (student, family and person) are in a situation where traditional school times work for them and to have the option of year round school would definitely be worth the effort.
