Can you please explain the rationale for shrinking the size of the garden? Either way, please consider leaving the garden as is. Clearly it’s quite popular and put to great use.

Community gardens are valuable for so many different reasons. They help people connect with one another, the earth and are good for the population’s mental health. Please don’t shrink this garden.

I was fortunate to have had a space in the Rancheria community garden for 2 years. Circumstances caused me to relinquish it but had that not happened I’d still be there today! These gardens are a wonderful opportunity to grow your own food, commune with Nature as well as fellow gardeners. The thought of reducing the size of the plots is obviously being made by someone who has never gardened nor has a clue as to the value of same. Please don’t reduce the size of the plots - people need this.. especially now.

No community garden should be sacrificed. A community garden is a gem that brings people and ideas together sharing skills on how to grow edible food. Many homes do not have big enough plots for private gardens or properties (particularly apartments and condos) are decoratively landscaped and renters do not have a choice to create a sustainable garden.

Years ago, I lived on the West side: De La Guerra and this garden was incredibly important to everyone there. I would imagine the person who helped by donating the land would want it to remain for the people in that neighborhood. Gardens teach children so much about the Earth and bringing home home-grown food and flowers puts joy in everyone's life. SB has been so lucky and forward thinking to have these gardens. Let us keep a good thing going and make our city a role model to others.

Eliminating garden space hurts public health, makes it more expensive for gardeners to purchase fruit and vegetables, and goes against dozens of peer-reviewed studies that show that gardening improves mood and self-esteem, and adds to longevity.
