"We currently (unrealised by us) only have a licence to play live music until 11pm."
I know this is a lie because their Open Mic nights only allowed people to sing to play music until 11pm.
I am sorry to see that lies and nastiness has won. I wish Spavens every success in their business - and that's despite them having been in direct competition to me when my business was open!

So I've worked in the drinks industry for 11 years and having read the petition on here something didn't quite add up.
Having viewed the license variation (which anyone can do through this link here https://lalpac.flintshire.gov.uk/protected/wca/publicRegisterLicActPremisesLevel2.jsp) what they are actually applying for is a license to play music/films outside until 1am.
Now I'm a huge fan of independent business, I think towns like Mold need more independence, especially from places like Weatherpoons - to me, personality is vital to a towns success and Mold has it in droves. From the market, Spavens sweet shop to 56 high street - all wonderful independent venues - to insinuate that you are the only place is very insulting to them and others who are aspiring to achieve better.
There's a famous saying in the drinks industry, "people don't drink after 12, they get drunk". I know first hand the effects alcohol has on even the nicest customers and one of the biggest problems is noise. I'm guessing that anyone who lives near a pub or bar or club also recognises this problem, and I'm especially sure that the residents that live above, next door and opposite also recognise this.
If Y Delyn are relying on an outside live music license extension to "save their business", I think they need to take a hard look at their business model and reavaluate themselves.
I, for one, will not be signing this petition and I invite everyone else to first look into the details and discover the truth of the petition before they do too.

I actually find this petition very insulting to the rest of the hard working business people of mold. This is no more the lifeblood of this town than the next establishment, after reading the below comment I read the paper's article and it shows the bigger picture, this is a real let down.

I was skeptical of this 'petition' to begin with having heard through friends about it but having read the report on the daily posts website I am disgusted by this.
As it turns out, there is no objection to a 1am licence extension but rather a compromise of music until 1 but a fair condition that the back smoking area be closed at 11:30. It seems the owner doesn't agree with this and has decided to campaign for the smoking area to remain open whilst failing to mention this in the headline and claiming it to be a petition to allow music. Nobody is attempting to shut this business down in any shape or form. Small towns need small business to thrive and to continue growing. By all means use petitions for the correct reasons but before signing a petition make sure all the facts are presented accurately.

This establishment doesn't have a match in Mold for people and entertainment of good quality. When the whole town appears to be heading down the shitter it's places like Y Delyn and people like Martina that remind us all that good people and places are still around!

Y Delyn is a fantastic venue and resource for the local community. I have enjoyed playing music there on numerous occasions and can vouch for the fact that noise levels are kept to a minimum, as required by the excellent staff. People who choose to live near to these establishments should be conscious of the fact that some additional noise is unavoidable; however staff and customers do make a big effort to ensure this is minimal. Live music venues are becoming more and more scarce these days so it is important that this one remains a going concern.

Having lived near a pub for many years I can totally sympathise with the residents on this issue. Noise from alcohol fuelled people is never quiet, never controlled entirely, and music playing until 1am is just inconsiderate, and unnecessary. These poor people living nearby deserve a break, and if your business relies solely on playing live music at unsociable hours, then you have a problem.
