The administration just announced they are keeping the Emergency Management program. Your direct action forced them to see the true value of this department. Keep an eye on the department website for official transition news.
At this time, the Emergency Management program at WIU is set to be eliminated in May 2020. This was the premier EM program in the state of Illinois! At this time, administration seems to only be looking at numbers and not the whole picture. If we don't show them what support there is out there for the program, then how will they know how truly valuable the program and the staff associated with it truly are?
Administration is currently reviewing our program status and they need to hear from you directly. Please email the Provost office today to demand they keep the Emergency Management program open. Send this link to three people in your professional network right now.

Emergency management is a critically necessary program, especially in the Midwest. As the costs of college continue to rise, having a recognized and respected EM program in an affordable and accessible location that will graduate the next generation of EM leaders without significant financial debt as they enter this life-saving career is valuable beyond measure to not only the state, but the Midwest and the country as a whole. Please do not eliminate the EM program at WIU.

This program graduates future leaders and forward thinkers. I have had the privilege of working with several of your Graduates, and I said to myself after our encounters, WIU Preparedness program is putting out excellent products. I found this amazing that after the 3rd graduate. Please reconsider eliminating the program...

All traditional academic disciplines are important to someone, but Emergency Management is important to everyone. Please keep alive Emergency Management until 2024 so WIU could graduate enough cohorts to create a self sustained knowledge environment on emergency preparedness and mitigation that will help save hundred of million dollars to Macomb and the great State of Illinois.

Eliminating this program would not allow future students the opportunity to get involved in a career that is on its way to be the top 10 careers to have. The diversity, and different areas this job can apply to are endless.

If the university would do a better job of engaging with high schools and train their counselors on the program, they would find great interest from incoming students.
Unlike other fields of study/sectors where graduates will look for post-commencement employment, EM is within EVERY SECTOR in the U.S.
Proper management would cause this program to flourish and grow!
