Save Wildlife from Life-Threatening Poisons!
Second Generation Anticoagulant Rodenticides (SGARs) are rat baits made popular by their ability to kill rodents in one feed. However, these baits can also directly or indirectly harm native wildlife and pets, through secondary poisoning. This is a process that occurs when an animal, such as an owl or cat, eats the poisoned rodent. The half-life of the constituents in SGARs is incredibly high (91 days), meaning that the rodent cannot excrete this poison before it dies. This means that the animals that prey on the rodents will receive the same toxic dose, and will die as a result. There are many alternatives for these poisons, such as First Generation Anticoagulant Rodenticides (FGARs), snap traps, ultrasonic repellers, and Contrapest (contraception for rodents).
The list of animals that are effected is immense - owls, raptors, dogs, cats, rabbits, possums, bandicoots, bilbies, quendas, livestock, even children can all die from these rat poisons.
We are campaigning to stop the sales of these products in stores such as Coles, Woolworths, and IGA. Will you join us in protecting our wildlife, pets, and children from these deadly baits?
