A favorite American past time is under attack in Virginia. It is currently illegal to water ski on the Chickahominy lake in New Kent County, VA.
This petition will be taken to the New Kent Board of Supervisors meeting Monday February 8th at 6:00 pm.

I have been staring at the maps of the lake all afternoon again because it just makes no sense that we are blocked from such a perfect spot. People keep messaging me with their own stories of summers spent on the water and honestly reading them makes me even more determined to get this on the agenda for the board members.

Laws or ordinances should not be engineered to exclude activities (waterskiing) based on the prejudices of a few. Public waterways should be free for all activities regardless of their form, as long as those activities are conducted safely & with respect.
Water Skiing is a great sports and should be allowed on Chickahominy lake. I prefer to not have fishermen in the area where I ski but I realize the water is for everyones use. So, I don't try to ban fishing. It takes a very small area for skiing and eliminating this activity does nothing to help the lake or the businesses on it.
Maybe the County will provide skiers a private site if the take Chickahominy Lake away. If you play baseball, tennis, basketball or a variety of other sports they provide fields for residents to play. The lake is our field of play and water skiers pay Taxs just like people who play these other sports!
Water skiing is an awesome family sport, unlike other team sports. My parents taught me to ski at age 7 and my husband and I pasted water skiing on to our kids. They are now World Champions and Professional Water Skiers.
With over 600 acres of available lake there is plenty of space for fisherman and skiers to coexist, as is done at most lakes of this size and smaller all around the country. In fact, many people do both - some family fun skiing, then toss a line in the water and fish.

I took a water skiing vacation to Virginia last year and am planning to do so again this year. Chickahominy was on the list of potential places we were going to visit ... but if we can't ski there we will not come.
