I am deeply sadden by this proposal. I feel it is very shortsighted of the council. Surely they have a integral role in preserving the cultural history of the community.

We need the museum so that Walsall people can learn about the traditions and life styles of local people and take pride in what they have achieved.

Museums and heritage are at the heart of most communities and contribute enormously to the well being and happiness of the people that use them. For such a small monetary saving so much will be lost - most importantly access to local history and heritage. Additionally museums are visitor attractions and will generate income for the area and local business. Walsall museum is a lovely place and has wonderful collections which should be accessed by the people that own them - the people of Walsall.

Typical of Walsall Council's lateral thinking - what will be next? Only 15 months ago it was being mooted as a good thing to have a new building incorporating it with the Local History Centre - I was at one of the meetings so know it was true. There won't be anything decent left of Walsall's proud heritage soon at this rate.

I agree with the sentiment of the comments found adjacent to this petition. Such action is penny pinching and short sighted. I suggest the Council look to other areas perhaps where funding is already received from outside parties as well as the Council.

£70K is a drop in the ocean in terms of overall savings required and a small price to pay to retain a visible heritage of our town.If the building must close, residents need guarantees that the exhibits will be found a new publicly accessible home.

Can a borough with one of the worst educational records in the country - including the constituency with the second lowest proportion of graduates - realy contemplate closing its museum? The £70K only amounts to a few pence per resident.
