The students at Lincoln and Hamilton deserve a good sports/play area. The current field is unusable for sports at any level as the turf is so torn up. We can insist on set times during which no scheduled events can occur, we can demand enhancements to the kiddie play area, we can set time limits for the lighting but don’t turn your backs on the needs of the students at the schools.

Way to gut the heart of a neighborhood. The park right now is being used by all, but especially little kids which is a lot harder to move them to other locations.

I looked at this from both sides and after much consideration, I have decided to support this petition. I am a new resident of Wallingford. I am one of the many who live in an apartment building, and I think with the push that has occurred over the last 10 years to build more apartments and the consideration that apartment dwellers do not have their own yards, local parks are very important to them. Local parks are community parks for all ages. I am a senior who left my own home and yard to move here to live near my daughter. Having a local park so close to the center of Wallingford is very important for everyone. Please think about all these new apartments that were approved to be built knowing they had ample green space nearby. I would love to see outdoor adult playground in Wallingford Park. This is the newest additions to local community parks. These adult playgrounds are designed with equipment that adults of all ages can use to build strength. I think the argument that the park is a Mud Pit should be replaced with the park is a Gem and what can we do to make it better for the whole community.

Lincoln's athletic field should be placed where it had their old football field which they currently turned into their parking lot. Not in our community park.

Wallingford Playfield should be just that, a play space for all of Wallingford. And space should be allocated base on usage. Very few neighborhood residents would be able to use such a large field, and it would benefit only a small number of people. Travel to neighboring fields until memorial is open again. Would make more sense. What about using UW fields? Or using the vast open space at Discovery Park for such a field? Or the rarely used space on the NW side of Gas Works Park?

The proposed use of Wallingford playfield for a new athletic facility would bias towards special athletic interests and remove the park as a general use community asset. Please keep the park for the community. Organized teams can organize themselves to travel to another field, our neighborhood cannot.

Where is the study to show how many people/ activities will be impacted by this change of use? This plan appears to be stripping away a valuable community asset for primarily boys high school sports.

We already in this neighborhood are greatly impacted by the two schools and the traffic and crowding. This park should remain a park. We have so few green space already for the neighborhood. Keep this a community park.

I add my voice in opposition to the conversion of the playfield. Lower Woodland Park is near enough for Lincoln. Do not expropriate and ruin this community gem.

I love this park and would hate to see the public space that’s used for picnics, dogs, playing, etc be turned into a sterile turf field that limits its usability for all those other purposes

With schools cutting back on recess we really need dedicated play areas for little (and big!) kids. We're recent transplants to Seattle from Chicago, another big city proud of its green spaces, and would be sad to see Wallingford Playfield go. Our new grandson would be devastated!

There are children all over the neighborhood that play at Wallingford Park. This is a community resource and was never intended to be cordoned away for exclusive high school use. Keep Seattle Public Schools from destroying a highly valued neighborhood asset!!!!

I'm amazed that Seattle Parks has acquiesced to SPS demands to raze this park and replace it with a full-sized field. I was a vocal proponent of Lincoln retaining a field in lieu of the parking lot that was ultimately chosen by SPS planners, and I will now be a vocal proponent that their shortsightedness does not entitle them to steal a neighborhood play space. This park is essential for all families in this neighborhood who lack back yards, cars, and access to costly structured sports programming ,and SPR knows that! They also know that trufed, lit fields displace these neighborhood users. To add insult to injury, Wallingford is the only neighborhood in the city without a community center. Where do district and city officials think neighborhood kids in this growing urban village are going to play? I guess if you don't have a back yard or can't afford structured sports programs in Wallingford, you are out of luck.
