Help us encourage the New York City Landmark Preservation Commission to give the Villa Rosa Bonheur landmark status!
The Villa Rosa Bonheur is a grand old stone apartment building nestled on a wooded hillside along the Harlem River where it meets the Hudson. It is located at 2395 Palisade Avenue, atop of one of those long staircases that leads to the Spuyten Duyvil MetroNorth station in the southern part of the Riverdale section of the Bronx. This lovely old building is dwarfed by the big box apartment buildings that surround it.
The Villa was just sold, and the new owner has plans for rebuilding it, which could involve destroying the property because it does not have landmark status. Those of us who live near the Villa Rosa Bonheur, find this hard to believe and would hate to see the lovely old, cottage-like apartment building destroyed and replaced with something new.
We're in the process of submitting a Request for Evaluation for landmark status with the New York City Landmark Preservation Commission. Residents of a nearby building have also sent letters and filled out a petition to help with achieving landmark status. The Landmark Preservation Commission no longer has the luxury of ignoring us now that this momentum has turned into a roar. These greedy developers think they can just bulldoze our history for a profit but they are about to find out that this neighborhood is not for sale.

Too much gorgeous old architecture is being destroyed, and replaced with 'modern', cookie-cutter structures. A large part of NY's allure is due to the artistic and unique nature of these buildings; we need to stop removing the art in architecture, and preserve what's left.
I have lived near this building for over 20 years. It is one of the focal points of Palisade Ave. It would be a sin to see this building destroyed
I am ashamed of the fact that one of the most iconic and unique houses of Riverdale is beeing left to the mercy of a real estate development project focused on an easy money scheme. We, the residents of the neighboring area know that the streets over there are not ready to accomodate the potential number of cars and traffic associated with such a development project.
For over seven years I was fortunate enough to have lived in two different apartments in Villa Rosa Bonheur (and before that to have lived for ten years in its sister building Villa Charlotte Bronte). Destroying beauty is always a sacrilege. I suggest making the developer's life miserable in as many ways as possible.
In addition to being a remarkable historic building—one of precious few that lend Spuyten Duyvil its charm—its sited on a tight parcel in a highly trafficked area. To cram a tower onto that land would be a travesty.

This is a fragile, historic building in an environmentally delicate area. Preserve and restore the Villa Rosa Bonheur and protect the surrounding neighborhood from possible asbestos and other hazards created by unpermitted demolition of the building's roof.
