This school was my retreat. Those pianos helped be breathe and focus on something else through my teenage years (that we all know can be extremely difficult): something powerful and beautiful: music. Those teachers were passionate and inspiring for the students. It is a terrible shame that the music school is closing. There is nothing like expressing oneself through music and nothing (not chemistry, physics, history... netflix, instagram, iPads...-what many teens spend their time on-) can replace the feeling of liberation you get while doing so. Even if they are or were a minority, those young students who need music in their lives can only flourish if they are given the chance to explore their talents. Take it from someone who took 5 years of music lessons at Villa and who is currently obtaining a professional “technique” degree at the CEGEP de saint-laurent music department. Charlotte Cumberbirch was like a second mom to me and I’m sure she was to other girls as well. That whole school and staff was lively and fun and was frankly the reason I stayed at Villa Maria in sec 5 instead of going to Brébeuf. Save the Villa Maria music school!

Music has always been a saving grace in my life. It soothes and heals. For me, eliminating this all important service to the community is tantamount to abuse.

The benefits of musical training in children are well-documented. It's truly amazing that more schools don't take such studies seriously and view musical training as an integral part of a child's development. Maybe one day our education system will catch up to that of the ancient Greeks.

C’est permettre aux jeunes de s'épanouir dans toutes les sphères de l'expérience humaine et leur permettre de développer leurs talents. Music is such a fundamental part of a student's life. Music already doesn't have the place it deserves in the education system. Please don't get rid of it.

How short sighted can a school be - art and music are at the heart of daily living and this school of all of them should understand that. The people who have devoted countless hours of teaching music and opening the students minds to its beauty and importance in our lives - Ms Taddeo was one shining example - what can you be thinking? How can you possibly entertain such a draconian step in this day and age? Shame on you! Have tried to post this on the petition and my signature was refused!!!!

Pourquoi priver vos élèves d'une si belle valeur qu'est la musique ? De votre école de grande renommée sont sortis des artistes de grande renommée aussi qui ont propagé notre culture et qui dorent le nom et l'histoire de votre école. Pourquoi vous arrêter là et priver les jeunes de ce bel outil de développement qu'est la musique ?

A school that strives to only get better shouldn't be removing arts programs from its curriculum; it should be adding more.

That decision doesnt have any sens. Il faut arrêter de vouloir rendre les enfants comme des machines à science. Laissez la creativité teinter de couleur les prochaines generation en leur laissant droit a s'exprimer de part leur art. Sinon on s'en va tout droit dans un film de science fiction....
C'est la pire decision que des gens de la bureaucratie trop orgueilleux ont pu prendre, un gros zero pour le volet appreciation.
