Music is therapy for alot of children and should be apart of their learning.

It is extremely unfortunate that a small group of narrow minded individuals could make such a unilateral drastic decision without any consultation nor consensus. The rational is basically an economic one, music seems to e be not profitable and there is also less interest. Really? Yet, they provide absolutely zero proof to that effect. Does anyone have or have ever seen the school’s financial statements? What was their analysis that motivated this decision?? In my opinion, education should not be treated like a business.
As you know, Villa Maria is just not any school. It has over 160 years of rich history of which Music was an essential pillar. By removing the music program, you are essentially preventing future generations to experience such a wonderful part of culture and bring human.

Class of 1998. I played the French horn in Mme. Latulipe’s class for several years. The music program is or at least was an integral part of what Villa Maria’s curriculum was all about. It was a great part of what made Villa special.

The arts are essential to children's upbringing, so it's important to keep them alive in schools. If these programs disappear, where will students learn their craft? These cuts have to stop now!

Apart from the educational advantages, it makes sense to keep the private program in school. It is a selling point in attracting enrollment. Daaa

Une éducation de grande qualité, incluant une grande part d'études musicales, ça n'a pas de prix pour le développement de nos enfants. C'est ce que j'ai reçu à Villa Maria et ce que je souhaite pour tous les enfants.

What makes private education institutions stand apart from others is the willingness and ability to commit to specialized and needed specialty programs. Villa Maria’s pricate music program is just this. With more automation in the next 50 years of many private and public sector jobs, those skills and talents that are purely and uniquely human will be more necessary than ever. As well there is much research about the meta cognitive benefits of music and its impact on other cognitive knowledge areas. Finally, though it’s easy to group students together for broader music and arts programs, some individuals flourish only with 1:1 teaching and mentoring. For all these reasons, and more, please reconsider ending VM’s private music program.

This music school was essential for cultivating my interest for learning the piano. By the help of the amazing teachers, I learned about my strengths and weaknesses in an enriching manner. I hope future students could live the same experience as me.

One on one bonds, especially with people as amazing and heartful and strong as some of my friends who teach music privately, create such an impact on children's lives. Not many other activities can create that bond the same way as private music lessons. This news makes me reflect even more on the importance of the lessons I had with my own teacher at a young age and this short-sighted, uninformed and arbitrary decision makes me sad at the loss, for the teachers and for all of the people who would otherwise receive your love, humor, knowledge and wisdom on a weekly basis, and have a way to enter into a greater community immediately, and for the rest of their lives, in their musical identities.
Let's make some noise. Please sign too.
