Universal is said to be making plans to tear down Stage 28, which was built for Lon Chaney's THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA in 1924. (See the construction photo) The theatre set was used in numerous films over the years and even when they took out the floor seats, curtains it was still a working stage.
What is REALLY ironic.....Universal Studios celebrates its 100th anniversary on that land next year. So why not tear down the only remaining vestige of the silent era! Brilliant move!
