TIM shouldn’t combine with Shidler College of Business. We have our own major!

After attending UH Mānoa for my sophomore year of college on the National Student Exchange program the TIM school helped me find my new home in Hawaii. I was only supposed to attend UH for one semester. After the connections I made between junior and senior students advising me and my affiliation in CMAA and AHLA, I ended up transferring here for the TIM program. My one semester turned into three years and a degree from the TIM school. This experience extends after graduation too as one of my previous professors and a current lecturer guided me through an internship and hired me full time come May 2018. This professional opportunity would never have come to me if it wasn’t for the TIM school. My parents, after sitting through two prior college graduations, could not get over the intimate connections shown between the students and faculty during the graduation ceremony. I do not support the TIM school merge.

The TIM school has garnished a sterling reputation for excellence due its illustrious, storied history and great achievements of its alumni. Do not allow it to get “watered down” by being absorbed into the school of business. Keep TIM school and it’s highly regarded reputation autonomous!

By this merger, the TIM School would be losing everything that it’s rich historical past has done for it’s present and future students and faculty alike. The student clubs, faculty, students (past & present), deans, office staff and industry sponsors have worked very hard to establish what the TIM School stands for and continues to do within the tourism industry in the state of Hawaii and beyond. For the TIM School to just be a part of the Business School would be a waste. It would be a watered down version of itself and would lose a ton of substance, academic and industry contributions to everyone that associates with the TIM School. Jobs, student opportunities and academic budgets would be cut and that is not feasible for anyone who is involved with the TIM School much less the students who love this program so much. Especially if we all call travel and tourism the main financial driver for our state of Hawaii. What would we be if even our own state college does not have a Travel, Tourism & Hospitality School to create and refine professionals for the industry the state so readily relies on. Thank you for the opportunity to voice my opinions and stance on such a merger. Fight on TIM School! Bring back TIMi Tuesdays!!!

I was studying at TIM last summer. It was only 2 weeks, really short term but I thank all teacher of TIM who made my time in Hawaii grateful.

It was nice to have a separate program from the business school and something that was fun and enjoyable to really want to earn a degree
