On Wednesday 7th three longstanding members of the UCD SU staff where informed that are to be made redundant. Pat De Brun, president of UCD SU informed the employees that they would be loosing their jobs on the basis that the photo-copying service wasn’t making profit & needed to be ‘’rationalized’’. The photocopying facility has never generated profit however & was traditionally funded through other services. The reason for the current layoffs is, in reality, the suspicious shortfall in SU funds which is currently under investigation. The idea that the SU cant afford to keep people in work is a falsehood, the SU spent €10,000 on a class rep ‘’training weekend’’ this year alone. It now falls on students to stand with our staff in their hour of need. Get involved with the campaign against redundancies & show the collage administration that arbitrary layoffs will not be tolerated!
