Some children are starting nursery with tooth decay and an unhealthy BMI - who is to blame for this? Why then is there a growing percentage of overweight primary school aged children when there is no vans selling their evil wares near these schools. Education begins at home, not secondary school. Moving a burger van will not unlearn the eating habits learned at home. I work in Wishaw and see scores of kids in the town centre with kebabs, Chinese meals, chippies, pizzas - you name it, they're eating it, therefore more will simply migrate to these takeaways. This is too complex an issue to resolve simply by banning burger vans. The lessons that need to be taught these days is not necessarily about nutrition, as let's face it you would need to be from Saturn to not know by now what is healthy or less healthy. The lesson is simply about PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY for ones own health and get rid of this blame culture.

Am in favour of this fantastic little van staying for a number of reason and will now be joining the fight to save it with my son and his friends,
1,van is close to the school no dangerous roads to cross and straight back in to school to play or go to 1 one of many clubs the school provide,
2, the kids will just walk down the street to other food establishedments and eat there any way,
3, more kids may get in to trouble ect or accidents,
4, freedom of choice do NL tell there workers what to eat ?
if you tell a child you can't have what do they do, we all know the answer to that,
the school has great sports team, great home economics classes, great clubs ect, none of my children are over weight they know the importance of sports eating sensibly due to the understand of food fitness education provided by the school, having a burger twice a week as a treat near and safely to the school am all for it staying,
A Friday treat is what has our fine British nation in the high ranks of obesity, although the children of this school may walk down to the street for their lunch instead, the closure of the van may encourage more traffic lights and zebra crossings. If you want your child to be safe then surely being within the school gates eating a healthy lunch 5 days a week is the safest thing to do; she is safe from both cars and coronary heart disease in the future. I urge responsible parents to avoid signing this abomination of a petition for a food outlet which is manipulating children's food sense by not giving them a healthy option or clearly displaying the nutritional values of its menu. It is instead profiteering from our young minds of tomorrow.

It is abusing its locational advantage. It isn't there for you, its there to use you. Support local bakers or butchers. Not this Van, probably nothing close to meat in the dispensed food.

As an enthusiast of all things British I find it appalling that it has been allowed for a food retail van to be placed outwith a health promoting school. After some careful investigation through my company I have heard some distressing news that the van is actually parked and placed next to the school and that the youth frequently purchase narcotics and cigarettes behind this eyesore. Seeing as this petition was created by young adults and all the people commenting seem to be students of the school I want an answer here.
Surely if the clientele consists of just students the Van should be treated as an extension of school and the staff should act in tow with this, I feel not only should this van be removed from the site but I believe the staff on board should be taken t task for blatantly taking advantage of stupid little kids that will walk to the closest dispensary of unhealthy food without regard for cost. This not only contributes to poor dermatological health but also weight issues and concentration issues.
Are the nutritional values displayed on the products or the menu? My investigations concluded no. My organisation will be doing everything to promote the closure of this van and the inquiries into the immoral profiteering of young and lazy minds.

I went to st adians and went there for ma lunch ladies are the best. I went here so i didn't need to go up the street cause if i did inwould have been late for class as when going to the burger van you were on time. Dont move the burger van

Removing the burger van will not stop the pupils of St Aidans eating this type of food. It is however safer for said pupils, as they all know Trisha and her family, and keeps the pupils nearer to the school, where there is less chance of them being knocked down by cars in the town centre, because lets face it, they don't exactly watch where they are going, especially when they are part of a larger crowd. As for the comment that the place is full of rubbish - I personally know that it is always kept spotless by the burger van staff during the day, and by NLC staff at the end of the school day. People will always have their own opinions, I would just like to express mine, as a mother of both a former pupil and a 4th year pupil at the school.
