The Queen of Aran was originally called the Shonag of Kishorn, isn't it bad luck to bring a renamed boat to Tory?, remember what happened when the Varrie of Carmarthan was renamed Cabin Fever 1

I sail a single handed dinghy for pleasure but when the weather gets rough I choose not to go to sea. This ferry will need to withstand rough seas or there could be a tragedy waiting to happen. Who wants this on their conscience. Remember Baidín Fheilímí.

I really do hope that Minister McHugh takes the time to read the comments on this petition, the message is genuine, honest, heartfelt and very clear, that if you allow the proposed service to begin in April you will be faced with an island at a crossroads, islanders will be boycotting the ferry that you provided to be Toraigh’s lifeline and a critical part of its ability to attract visitors, families will be relating to the mainland and all local businesses will be closed, it will be a slippy slope to extinction for this island community who were on the up until your Department made this decision to downgrade the ferry service.
The provision of safe access to populated offshore islands is a key objective of the Department of Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, you, as the Minister given the responsibility to implement this policy have failed the islanders in this basic requirement for an island community. You know you have to act within the next number of days to rescue this situation, stop pretending your hands are tied and stop protecting your officials, you must call off the proposed service, fast track the construction of a new ferry and give the islanders an acceptable ferry service until the new boat is put into service, this is the only sustainable decision for you to make, otherwise your successor as Islands Minister will be establishing a task force to save Tory from closure.
The window of opportunity is closing Joe, do not leave it until it is too late

It is a necessity to sustain the importance of an ancient indigenous population on one of Ireland’s moat northerly islands. We must not let this island way of life suffer because of below adequate amenities for the island people.

Róshean, róshean agus róchontúirteach. Baineadh long chabhlaigh LÉ Clíona den fharraige i ndiaidh 29 mbliain cionn is go ndeachaigh casúr beag glaice isteach trína taobh nuair a bhíothas ag baint na meirge di 1970. Bhí beannacht na Roinne Cosanta 7 Roinn na Mara aici go dtí sin. Tá an Bhanríon seo 13 bliain níos aosta anois ná an seancorvette Clíona.

The attempt to put this ferry on for the people of Tory is a disgrace and shows what our current government really thinks of the wild Atlantic way it’s a case of keep the money in Dublin and forget Donegal again
