I am NOT in favor of changing the zoning laws. This is a small town not a metropolis and these proposed changes will significantly alter the Thoreau Street area and put many small businesses out.

This development has no relation to its immediate area or to the center of Concord.
It takes an already difficult traffic area and increases the density.

Please do not damage the wetlands abutting Crosby’s! Traffic backs up a quarter mile or more already past Thoreau st. Please preserve our neighborhood!

The proposed changes will encourage development that will overwhelm the existing neighborhood, inalterably damage the lives, community, and unique history of Concord. As a professional historian, I am aghast that a town so committed to preserving the power and enjoyment of its history and the anchoring of its neighborhoods in this history would consider such a change. Why should Concord residents face extreme density, traffic congestion and more of the deadening sameness that overtakes so many communities outside cities? This is a special town that has fought for its history, distinction, and community since the early 17th century. Can we really mean to turn out backs on this now?

I am a resident of "The Depot" area and while I am for progress and change, I am not for this proposal. It seems that those that put forth this proposal are detached from the congested realties that already exist in this neighborhood. And, at the moment, that is what this area is -- a neighborhood. If this "vision" becomes reality, the loss will be great. No longer will I feel it safe for my children to walk "into town" as there will be no town for them to walk too. Rather, it will be a small city. One person on the list of comments mentioned Lexington. That feels about right. Lexington used to be a quaint, historic town. Now it feels like a city where people sit at red lights in idling cars stressed out and frustrated. Anyone who lives in this neighborhood knows that people who are commuting though the area coming down Sudbury Road from RT 2 in the morning or afternoon make the decision whether to turn left onto Grant Street to test whether circumnavigating the light at Thoreau Street will save them 1.3 minutes. Grant Street, in essence, becomes a drag strip where the "stop" sign at Elsinore Street is a mere suggestion. There is a reason the person who lives on Grant and Elsinore parks their cars on Grant during the day, and I assure you it is not to free up space in their driveway. What then, I ask, will be the solution when the traffic increases 100x? A bridge? A tunnel? A portal? Well, we all know those who propose these developments do not and will not ever live in our neighborhood and thus, don't care about these problems. So then, we must ask, what is it they DO care about? Why this proposal? What is it for? Who is it for? Who does it serve? What is its purpose? Concord is a special place, and The Old North Bridge is exactly 1.5 miles from the Crosby's parking lot. Let's remind ourselves of what will be lost and can never be regained if we do not stop to think of what is here and should remain.
