The city of Marrakech is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the World and home to a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is, however, blighted by the failure of the local authorities to address the suffering of the thousands of working animals in the city.

The vast majority of these animals are old and unfit for work. Theirs is a terrible fate for they are literally being worked into their graves. They are required to pull heavy loads with little or no access to food and water. They often suffer terrible physical abuse as their owners drive their emaciated, tired and dehydrated bodies on and on through the noise, the pollution, the ever-increasing traffic and the busy, crowded streets.

These working equines should not be worked to death on the streets of Marrakech and we call on the local authorities to take a stand and remove working equines from their city. This will protect both the welfare of these poor unfortunate animals and address one of the most significant concerns expressed by visitors to this city.
