The archive is vital resources for historical research undertaken not just by historians working at the university and their undergraduate and postgraduate students but also numerous local community groups, school children and other researchers. It has brought together a wide range of heritage organisations stimulating a educational and cultural activities, most recently around the history of Worcestershire in the First Word War, when the archive service led the bid to obtain one of the largest HLF grants awarded outside London. The skills, status and expertise of the archive should not be decimated by such extreme and sudden cuts which will damage the cultural life of the county and the well-being and education of many of local people.

I spent today editing the forthcoming life of Henry Jetto (1569/70-1627), part of our forthcoming early black lives release for the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography release. Largely based on material held in these archives. They are a critical historical and scholarly resource and these cuts would be a body blow to historical research and public history in this country.

Worcester has a service to be proud of, which engages the city and county community with its history as well as providing valuable academic research opportunities.
Once downgraded, such services rarely recover. Please have the courage and foresight to protect this important facility and ensure that the community can actually continue to access it. In difficult times, it is surely all the more important to protect the community's culture.

The Hive Archive is of vital importance to the work of the Worcestershire Farmsteads Project of which I am a member. The project records historic farm buildings and The Hive Archive is an essential resource for researching the histories of the farms. This cut in funding would be detrimental to the work of this project.

As Project Leader of the Worcestershire Farmsteads Project, I am concerned at any proposal which would limit access to this key source of primary reference. The archival resources held at the Hive provide a tremendous starting point for the research which our volunteers undertaken into the economic and social history of individual farms, enabling other sources to be integrated so that we can present the fullest picture of the development of each farm. Looking wider, there is a need to maintain this archive for those interested in family and community history, as well as providing the opportunity for research students to access primary references with a local context.

Although new to the county, now living in Evesham, the value of the archive at Hive has been brought to my attention both to inform the Civic Society's work and that of both the Hovel and Farmstead projects that I am now involved with. Please reconsider this drastic action.
