I've been in concert choir for 3 semesters or, 1 1/2 years and I've enjoyed every second of it. With that being said, I'm sure that it's been difficult for our Choir teacher to teach two classes in one period. So at the very least, I'd hope that we could have two choir periods. While having two different levels may work in other classes, like our Chinese program having Chinese II and III in the same class. It just doesn't work in choir. In Chinese, the third level students are getting a review of chapters that they've already surpassed. In Choir, since we're practicing different pieces between Mixed and Concert, we're not able to learn from the other choir as one would in a Chinese class for example. There are many classes that this works for, such as the aforementioned Chinese, Video Production, Photography, MC JROTC, and other classes I'm sure. But music requires the concentration of all individuals involved, and that sadly isn't as easy to maintain when the teacher has to teach two completely separate choirs in one 50-80 minute block of time.

Everyone deserves to feel like they are good at something and have something they look forward to at school. It's these things that keep kids in school and help them find the skills to prosper past their k-12 experience.

I sang in choir at NPHS my entire high school career. We competed against WVHS concert choir. They were AMAZING. Directed by the infamous Marvella Davis. While working with students at WVHS for 5 years I was honored to meet and work with many of the choir students. The choir students are dedicated, interesting, super intelligent and supportive people; as are all the students who pursue the fine arts. If its money, then everyone donate ten dollars. Every man, woman and child in FNSB. WE could fund the entire Arts program in the school district: Painting, ceramics, jewelry, traditional arts, metalsmithing, choir, band orchestra, writing, drama and forensics. It is important to have more than one choir so that those who are just learning can be in an environment that they feel comfortable and it is also very important for the more skilled students to have a place and time to hone their skills in a more elite type of choir. For you sports people out there: JV team, Varsity team.
So much money is spent on sports at the high schools it is offensively gluttonous compared to the small amount of money that is budgeted for the art programs. Although sports does help students stay healthy through physical fitness and keep them in school so that they can earn the grades to play Also for a small amount of students sports help them to gain scholarships for college. Sports cannot compare to the wisdom,spirituality and pure joy that art can bring to not just the person involved but everyone around him or her, in fact everyone everywhere.
The Arts keep students in school just as much, if not more so then anything else. It is rarely competitive it is supportive and the students learn immeasurable life skills from being involved in the arts.-

Look, this is literally the plot of Glee. The arts in school are important people, and that includes music. A good student to teacher ratio ensures a better learning environment and a stronger student.

Arts education is so important and the fact that West Valley does not have is not fair to the students there. Arts teaches a sense of community, the same community that can be taught in sports. They teach individuality and confidence. They teach you that it's okay to be yourself. The arts are extremely empowering. When you live in a world where the arts are constantly not being funded and sports consistently are, it's amazing to find a group of people who believe in the same work that you're doing. There needs to be a qualified Choir teacher at West Valley. Enough said.

Being in Steel Drums, I was forced to listen to Choir and they were always good. Choir was and is a great way for kids to express themselves. I believe that choir is a must for students.
