It is so deeply unjust that Berkeley considers building a parking lot to be more important than respecting a sacred site of the Ohlone people. Burial site vs. concrete lot? How is this even a question? Please, Berkeley, have some respect for the ancestral lands we live on. Stop this cycle of colonization and send a message to Indigenous communities here and across the nation, fighting for justice, liberation, and healing, that their people matter.

Berkeley doesn't need a new shopping mall. Berkeley needs to honor this sacred place.

As a settler/occupier, I honor and support the Ohlone call to protect their sacred village and burial site in West Berkeley. At the very least, it is truly a valuable and historic landmark.

Seriously. White people, we have to stop doing this.

Too much has already been taken away from Native Americans. Destroying sacred ground is something that should NEVER be considered, even more so for something as trivial as more parking. Respect the native culture, PROTECT SACRED GROUND.

Enough already. Do we need to Occupy the Shell Mound to save another Sacred site?

I was raised on this land that is now called Berkeley. Went to Berkeley public schools, Berkeley High School, and I currently live in Berkeley. I was once proud to be from this city, until I learned how indigenous rights continue to be disrespected and violated here. I pray that the city of Berkeley can adhere to and honor the rights outlined in the UN Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. No more desecration of sacred sites!!! Do not develop the West Berkeley Shellmound! Sincerely, Austin
