The Vancouver Park Board recently presented a draft master plan for John Hendry Park. Under the proposed plan, the Farmers Market will be moved to the SOUTH parking lot, closest to E. 19th Avenue. In addition to it being hidden from any major traffic or transit route, it will be reduced SIGNIFICANTLY in size, and located further from any parking than the two previous locations were.
The move to this parking lot will greatly decrease the number of farmers and other vendors who have invested in their farms, and work and have come come to rely on this market for their livelihood.
We, the undersigned, are users and supporters of the Market and we strongly disagree with this new location of the Farmers Market. Vancouver City Council and the Park Board have made a commitment to Food Security yet moving this Market will have a negative impact on food security in Vancouver and the Lower Mainland.
