Save the Sunflower Path

I love the positive energy that exists in this space now. Advocating for keeing this creative space as it is now. Everytime I come here, I feel happy in Dinosaurland!

Please do not alter this daily walking path that gives us great joy and comfort during covid as part of our only exercise. The artists that have created it has made it perfect .. keep the political edge that seems to be everywhere away from this small place that was made by obviously loving people. It's our neighborhood gem.

I am a person with disabilities. Being a Parkinson's disease patient, I have very unstable gait and tend to fall easily. I also have very poor vision. The paintings on the steps proposed by the project are very serious, potentially deadly, safety hazard, especially for me and people with disabilities like me. I have the right to safe access to the "Sunflower Path". I oppose any paintings on the steps.

We need more spaces that are not adorned with political statements. Even though I agree with many of the lawn signs; it's a drag to go for a walk and be confronted with a sign every 100' bringing politics to the forefront.

The beauty and welcoming of Sunflower Pathway must not change, it’s unfortunate this space has become a target for threats, harassment and narrow minded political hot topics of the day please contain hate to your own resistance so unparalleled beauty can welcome everyone.

Let us honor the artist who has created this beautiful path, and keep it as it is!!

Adding slippery paint would make this already steep set of stairs more treacherous. Keeping this space open for all uses and expressions of opinion would serve the majority best.

This place is a respite from politics. I agree with the sentiment but just need a few places in the world to rest from the constant sadness.

Oakland, this is one of the deadliest cities, make it better don't take away existing beauty we enjoy

Let's respect EVERYONE including those directly impacted, Oakland fails to maintain Montclair Park and Streets , instead of online tantrums energy is best spent doing something; mentor a troubled youth, pick up trash, give of your time to a homeless shelter, read to young kids or volunteer at Children's Hospital. Make a genuine impact without hate!

This community pathway should remain welcome to ALL and not become today's hot topic of politics and hate. Montclair Park is a perfect example of neglect and graffiti, not welcome. Kindness matters!

Just because I started something 20 years ago and take great pride in what I created does not give me license or authority to prevent others from adding to it. In some ways it is reminiscent of a young child who built an amazing sand castle and then protests other kids wanting to join in and build a moat around it and add some additional features. The original kid gets upset, tantrums and refuses to let the surrounding kids play and participate as their presence makes them “threatened”…. The great thing is we are adults and can access our better, more mature & inclusive selves and not succumb to this level of fear & self-centeredness. We can all potentially be open to the sand castle being added to in ways that we did not envision or prefer. We are a community and all voices/expression can be heard and honored….

Why can’t the dinosaurs & reptile art & the names of colorfully painted American Black citizens co-exist? We are all one neighborhood all with unique stories, backgrounds, histories and beliefs to be honored and respected. What if the stairs historically had a mural art display about race in America and a group wanted to add some cool dinosaurs and flowers. How would neighborhood folks feel if a small group of individuals individuals/ families refused to include the planting of some beautiful flowers and animal statues near the stairs to expand the art installations? It would deemed not fair and non-inclusive… This current scenario echoes a similar sentiment. For those who sign this petition, please think and feel long and hard about what your refusal to allow the expansion of the art on these stairs represents and says about your mindset and character and your fear of…..

I love this path, and its non political beautiful nod to nature.

I walk these steps regularly and I love seeing the additions that are made with lovely plantings and fun metal art. The sunflower steps make me happy and relieve stress. Please do not turn it into a political statement which would be better suited elsewhere.
