Dog and I often stop along this path during our walks. We take a breath, take in the view and enjoy the whimsical display of sunflowers and assorted reptilian and amphibious creatures. The residents along these steps already lose some privacy as their property can be viewed by passersby. They should not be subjected to having even more foot traffic caused by Kalb's bullheaded plans to force his choice of artwork on the neighborhood. They have a right to enjoy their property without even more intrusions. Since Kalb wants this so badly, surely there is some blank space on his own street or in front of his house? Graffiti is graffiti. Everyone thinks theirs is THE only worthy message. Not every blank space need be, or should be, covered with some social/political lesson.

The existing art and plants are beautiful. It’s a peaceful meditative place to walk, free from controversy and negativity. Can’t we just let it be just as is. Everyone can enjoy its beauty away from all the bad news today. Everything doesn’t need to be a political statement.

Will there eventually be other social messages painted over these tranquil pristine steps too? Or just whatever message Kalb decides to behind? As long as it's not his front yard?

It shouldn’t be use for this, this is for the neighborhood not for political movements. Leave the neighbors alone and go somewhere else!

This is not the place for this kind of dedication. A good thought but wrong place to memorialize. Why change an already enjoyable icon in a wonderful neighborhood.

I am totally opposed to destroying what is already a beautiful path and location enjoyed by neighbors for many years.

It feels like creating a permanent memorial is another knee-jerk official reaction to someone defacing the politically favored original defacement (chalk graffiti), since doing otherwise would make the officials appear racist. So no matter what the impacted residents say, the project will "move forward." But I wish the actual residents to have their peaceful respite without constant reminder of death, so I will sign the petition.

I don't think the proposal is appropriate.

This is wrong on so many levels. People who live outside an area should not come in and dictate to residents or force their own particular ideas on residents, period, no matter how worthy the cause. I’ve lived here over 46 years. This is an inclusive, welcoming community, so the idea that we should be punished for “sins” of earlier residents is maddening. We try to have a place of beauty, security and peace in the place we call home and permanent political statements have no place near our homes. For those that feel strongly, let them volunteer their private property to display this memorial. This display will invite anger and ill-feelings, not a righteous sense of putting right an injustice. The goal of such a political statement is not to honor, but to stick a wagging finger in the faces of people, none of whom here had anything to do with the killing of these people. Place the memorial somewhere where it can be viewed by the people who need to be reminded, not a quiet residential area.
