Save the flowers

The steps as they are provide a positive moment in an otherwise tumultuous day. We don’t need to politicize them for one group’s cause (as much as I sympathize w the cause). Make an impact where it will matter, not in a quiet residential walking path. There’s clearly a lot of controversy around this, and most of the pro-mural emphatic folks do not live directly in the neighborhood (ie Morpeth and Modoc).

As a senior citizen who used to be able to handle the stairs, l would now appreciate a handrail.

I have family in the area. I don't feel they can be safe with the added traffic and the slippery conditions of a painted surface. Make a wall mural for "Say Their Names".

This is a neighborhood feature in a quiet residential area. It serves to build community by the pleasant and counters that we have was friends and family here. It would not serve the community or the the movement to create division by politicizing this harmonious setting.

The Sunflower Path is already a destination and a celebrated local icon. It should not be repurposed - there are many other steps in the neighborhood that can be utilized and beautified by the suggested new project including those closer to my own home. Do not take over our Sunflower Path!

Maybe a compromise is possible, save flowers but do signs in single pole with multiple names.

Keep communities close by enabling and helping grass roots projects like this one!

Spoiled Piedmont teens graffitiing our community, Kalb gave a green light for widespread graffiti, threats, bullying and filth. Community beauty should never become a political statement! Way too much free time, make a difference by reading to inner city kids or pick up trash. Everyone matters.

Does this political "artwork" Kalb wants to force on the Sunflower Path include anything about the violence and racism against Asians? No? Why not?

there's no such thing as a "neutral space". What more accurately describes your meaning is "white space". And these kids want to paint a mural. How is that "vandalism and looting"? And yeah, 17-year-old Trayvon went out to buy a pack of skittles and a grown man who was explicitly told not to do what he was doing gunned him down. The only things Trayvon couldn't control were George Zimmerman and being born Black in a racist country. You anonymously racist POS, this entire petition is politics. Racist politics. Y'all oughta form a White Citizen's Council. Just look at yourselves. This is ugly. I'm revolted that I have neighbors who would believe the things they are saying in these comments. Every damn one of you should be deeply ashamed of yourselves. After all, this mural is a MEMORIAL. To people who were murdered by the police. Police who are acting in YOUR name. And it's somehow not a part of this "neutral space"? What must go on in your heads? I'm disgusted.

Nothing like a bunch of people to pretend like refusing to insert politics into neutral spaces is somehow violence yet vandalism and looting isn't. Keep pretending that people like George Floyd and Trayvon Martin aren't victims of their own stupidity and lack of self control. Keep politics out of this place.

Totally agree! Let me know if you are interested in coming to my rally tomorrow. We will be discussing how the most important thing right now is maintaining white peace of mind during COVID and ignoring the black people who have been murdered by police during this period in which we have enjoyed taking walks on the beloved sunflower path!
