Save the SMU Dedman Law Quad - Oppose the Relocation Plan

Class of 2022. DO NOT MOVE!!!!

This move will negatively impact all Dedman School of Law grads and the future of the school. Rethink this move!

Don't mess with greatness.

Why bother with even running a law school if you’re going to move it across the freeway? SMU is signaling that the law school is now just an afterthought. Keep it in the law quad. Cut the budget elsewhere and leave programs with historical significance be. The law school is a much bigger part of SMU’s identity than the board realizes.

Moving the law campus across the highway is an embarrassment. It will undo all of the progress that has been made in the past few years.

SMU Law Class of 2022. This proposed move is egregious and an insult to students and alumni. The historic buildings should be protected and invested in, NOT demolished.

I adamantly oppose the demolition of the law school. As a member of the class of 2019, the law school would be severely and negatively impacted by the planned move. My hope is that the law school‘s leadership understands the history and importance of maintaining the current buildings that comprises the law school. Demolishing these buildings would equate to demolishing the very history upon which the law school has been built.

This is an incredibly disappointing decision on behalf of SMU. I would not have selected to go to SMU had it been located across 75, and I suspect many future students and faculty will not give the law school consideration if this move is to take place. The lack of information providing any merit to the move and how it may better serve the law school speaks for itself.

SMU Law Class of 2022

Both of my sons have gone to SMU for multiple degrees. I have never been so disappointed in SMU. I have stopped donating and will never donate again if they destroys the law school. I am shocked and so sad at this terrible plan.

2019 SMU JD grad with honors, practicing in Dallas. I never would have come to SMU Law if it were across 75, and I won’t give a penny ever to support this school if this move occurs.

Preserve the Heritage !

The current environment is very calming for everyone including the students. Law school is stressful enough, having a peaceful stately environment is very helpful for them.

Class of 2019. Strongly against this move, as are many other alumni I have spoken with. Knocking down the law quad would be disastrous for the school. Very disappointing to see the administration moving forward with this project without adequately consulting with students, alumni, and faculty.

As an SMU alum who was considering going back to the Hilltop for my JD, this has made me reconsider where I am applying.
