This is a warm-climate city. To replace a lovely, tree-shaded space with a yet another expanse of grass and low-growing plants just steps from the National Mall is short-sighted. The Smithsonian may need to renovate the space underneath, but to destroy permanently a lovely oasis is design arrogance at its worst.

Grew up going to this garden! Just was there this weekend and it was full of people. Don't eliminate all our green space/gardens. There are already so few left!!!

These gardens are a real treasure. I always look forward to enjoying their early spring blooms.

This is irresponsible when we humans, especially our children, need nature more and more. We can't thrive surrounded by cement.
