Not only would I like to see the garden preserved, I think the proposed design is jarring and unattractive. Maybe if the new design was more appealing I could learn to live with the loss of the garden.

Is this really necessary? It's not only the garden that I'd like to protect, but the old fashioned, historical atmosphere of all the buildings this proposal will turn to dust. "New and improved." NOT.

As one of the few islands of serenity in the heart of one of our busiest cities, the Haupt Garden is a gem and should be kept for all to enjoy.

I adore the solutions that BIG comes up with when presented with a project. The usually are respectful of the site and its context. But this time I think they missed the mark slightly by calling for the demolition of piece of our architectural history. Everything else in the proposal looked wonderful just leave the garden be. Build whatever you want under it.

The Haupt Garden is one of the nicest public spaces in DC. It's open and welcoming for individuals and families, and has great architectural features that surprise and delight. And the entrance pavilions to the Sackler and African Art galleries are beautiful.

Consider The Louvre in Paris. From the windows you can see Catherine D'Medici's garden. Would anyone considering destroying that? No. The Enid Haupt Garden should be given the same honor.

Gardens are a gift to all. It is especially important to save green space. If we are not careful, the whole Mall will be full of monuments.

National Cathedral stone carver Constantine Seferlis created the beautiful columns supporting the garden's wrought iron entry gate. The artistry in the Enid Haupt Garden goes beyond the plantings!

The Enid Haupt Garden is one of the gems of DC: a place of quiet beauty in the midst of Mall madness. The years of thoughtful development must not be squandered. It provides the perfect spot for quiet contemplation and just the right frame for the Castle.

What a waste! Keep this garden--I enjoyed wandering the garden last weekend. If you want to spend taxpayer dollars on a fancy new park, please rip up a boring section of the mall instead of ripping up this garden.
