Thank you Jim for so many amazing shows. Too sad to imagine downtown without the Smell.

I've been going to the smell since the very beginning and have seen some of the best up and coming artists of the last almost twenty years. I've helped put together shows and record swaps. I've met some of my closest friends because of this space. It's a space for music, art, food, culture, freedom that welcomes everybody no matter who you are or where you come from. It's more then four walls. It's a spirit that can't be broken or halted. It's a safe haven for those that feel like they don't fit in elsewhere. Young people need a place to be creative and find influence without limitations. It not only helps those that attend on a regular basis but the comunity that surrounds it as well. Having many benefits for different organizations too many mention. It also helped out people going through hard times directly by letting them work/help out. All this without charging an arm and a leg. A place like this comes around once in a lifetime which makes this petition that much more important. This place needs to exist because it has to exist. It makes our wonderful city that much more interesting and cool. The smell was the first place on downtown that made it cool and ok to be there altogether. It was there way before all the expensive rents and fancy food. It was the reason why artist started to pay attention to an otherwise forgotten area. The arts district, the central market, the art walk, the renufication of Broadway, and all the museums owe it all to the one that made the area cool again. This place is THE SMELL. Please reconsider your plans to demolish this building. This is more then four walls. This is our lives!

We should all put on the effort to register the smell as a California landmark.

The Smell makes access available to celebrate the arts, especially for the youth. Demolition of a historic building for the profits of a parking company? And right as LA gathers to celebrate Lummis Day. This is our space, as a community sharing endlessly valuable experiences through music. This is The Smell.

The Smell has been an integral aspect of the underground music culture for which Los Angeles is known. The inclusiveness of the venue fosters a community of artists of all ages, which is seldom seen at larger establishments. To remove such a landmark venue would be an immense loss not only to the music community, but to the Neapolitan quality of the city. I sincerely insist that the city take measures to preserve locations of historic value such as The Smell, especially when there is plenty of land for development elsewhere in the confines of the city.
keep the music going !!
