The Smell is incredibly important to Los Angeles, a cultural institution as far as I'm concerned. In a city whose live music and venue laws have the side-effect of making it nearly impossible and financially inadvisable to keep an all-ages space open with no bar, Jim does the impossible, and seemingly directly out of his pure ethical determination that a space like this NEEDS to exist in LA. Support The Smell because The Smell supports all of us.

Known for its amazing underground world of music, a place like this should remain for those who seek to find treasure.

When I moved down to Los Angeles, I didn't know anything about the music scene here. Over the years, my knowledge and participation has grown. My fellow friends have played there and I have experienced a wonderful time there. Everyone knows about the "The Smell", it's THE place in downtown LA.

There are so very few DIY all-ages spaces in our area, and they're are such important pieces in helping musicians and fans of all ages feel a sense of purpose and belonging within their musical community. This place is far more valuable than the land it happens to stand on, and has created (and will continue to create) an exponentially positive impact on the Los Angeles music scene and culture.

The Smell is a cultural landmark and a community service to musicians and artists in Los Angeles. Unless it is going to be replaced by an institution of equal or bigger importance it needs to stay.

I went to my first DIY show at The Smell and have been coming back ever since for the great crowds, performers, and overall "home to all and anyone" atmosphere. This venue is a haven for music lovers of all ages; without it, where will rockers age 13-30+ go to get their kicks?

The smell was so important to me as a youth in low Angeles. Giving me a safe place to be exposed to art and music without having to be around drugs or alcohol. Please don't take this away from other kids.

This place feels like my first home. The kids need this. Los Angeles needs this. The smell is a landmark. If it is demolished, where will we go to enjoy music and art. For the kids by the kids.

Music in LA would not be what it is today without this wonderful place. So many of the musicians that continue to inspire to me to this day I saw here for the first time. Would be a crime and just another example of LA's penchant for wrecking its own history.
SAVE THE SMELL
