The Smell is a cultural institution. It serves as a safe venue for music lovers and makers of all ages. The Smell means a lot to a great many of us who have grown up with it. Demolishing this cultural hot spot would be detrimental to LA's youth and the city's artistic culture as a whole. Moreover, at a time of the city's major arts revival, this is a most grave mistake.

This place has been a very significant meeting-grounds that has served not only the Los Angeles youth but also very many young, creative groups/artists from all over the world for almost two decades. To ignore this site and its very necessary livelihood within a growing desolation of youth (and youth-led) space is to ignore a very very large voice and submit to a very large problem. The insistence on taking it down is a gesture of self-destruction. It's not just a cloud of nostalgia-- please please please reconsider this decision. The consequences might be abstract but that doesn't mean they won't exist. Thanks and much love--

This is going to be an irreplaceable loss to LA's underground music scene. I'm a former DJ at KSPC and a lot of the music we play there is from bands who got their start here. We can't let these spaces for underground bands disappear.
