My first show was at the smell. Nothing but good times. It's very important to keep it to support the LA music scene.

The Smell has helped out the youth so much it's so sad that it's gonna get turned into a parking lot.

The Smell (venue) has been a thoroughly unique space for music acts in Los Angeles since 2000. As an all ages venue run with the help of volunteers it not only embraces the DIY ethic in it's purest form, it also foster the concept of volunteerism itself and has undoubtedly changed young people's lives. While I clearly support the owners of this property to do what they want with it, I would hope that the owners will appreciate not only the history of the building itself but the Smell's history and place within the indie community. Even if the entire area will be leveled for newer construction the Smell can be built around and still kept in place as a beacon of bygone days.
Los Angeles clearly derives a benefit form it's worldwide perception as the musical spark that lights the way for countless other bands and clubs world wide that copy the LA DIY aesthetic. To extinguish one of it's brightest embers is counter productive for so many reasons.
Venues like the Smell make Los Angeles what it is in terms of an entertainment monster and mentor. Let's hope that all parties can reach an equitable conclusion and let the Smell live on for another 18 years.

The smell is an important space of personal exploration for music and art lovers and makers of all ages. It is one of the spaces that makes Los Angeles an exciting place to live. Downtown LA wouldn't have become the "arts district " that people are trying to sell it as if it weren't for places like the smell. It is of current and historical importance and should be part of the future of the city

Started going to shows here in high school. I really hope it doesn't close down. I have so many awesome memories coming here, with old and new friends. And hope that this artistic space is still available for future generations. :(
