Hi all the good people of Mt Albert, as we all know and have seen in a combined disaster, Auckland transport and Council have ripped up our village roads, removed parking, caused massive traffic congestion and put a massive strain on local businesses to the point of closure for some. And for what? excessive footpaths that are bare and empty and after struggling will have to pay more to even sit outside, a bike lane that's nothing but a ugly black asphalt strip. Although mid completion enough is enough and if possible would like to try and at least save the left slip lane turning left from new north road onto Mt Albert road. AT is removing this to create a unnecessarily so called pocket park on the corner. This removal will cause more traffic congestion, delays as well as send more drivers onto side streets such as Loyd ave and Allendale road. Along with this the entrance to the ANZ bank will be at virtually the foot of the intersection, an accident entrance waiting to happen. In total there are also 8 unrestricted parking spaces which will be reduced to only 3 along with the 3 of 9 left across the street to add a bus stop, why do we need to remove so much parking for a bus stop when there is one 30 seconds down the road in front of a good thing. It's a blatant sabotage of our streets to force people to pay for public transport. Please sign this petition to show that we are residents do not want to see this useful slip lane removed and a better option created, AT used the excuse "it's too dangerous" I've been here for 10 years and have never seen anyone hit there. if it's safety they want simply put in a proper crossing and a large speed bump. Please sign and share this petition as time is of the utmost importance. Thank You
The momentum behind this is undeniable. People are finally waking up to the reality of these gridlock plans.

Save the slip lane! I use this all the time to turn left onto Mt Albert Road...so stupid to remove this for a wider foot path...and what about the parking that will be lost for these shops, if there is nowhere to stop people will drive on buy....who thought this was a good idea? Ridiculous!

The slip lane is so useful. Its loss of both convience and parking is not justified to a theory idea.
Turning left at the lights would be dangerous as the up hill layout and angled away direction would require a wide turning circle.
The pocket park would be unattractive, all the local pocket parks (Balmoral, Three Kings) are deserted/unused, too noisy, and dangerous with the immediately located traffic volumes. Cross traffic from ANZ car park also makes the pocket park a pedestrian hazard. Similarly with bus stop noise.

We don't need a park on that corner, or to lose any more parking. Or to add to the traffic queues. Save the slip lane!

Slip lanes are for motorways.
There has been some good progress in removing them from the CBD in the last few years which has made the environment safer and more pleasant for pedestrians (some would call them shoppers), especially those who aren't nimble enough to run out of the way of a speeding car.
It's great to see they are also starting to disappear from the suburbs too, I'll be glad once all the slip lanes in Auckland are gone.
