As a short hair ROTC cadet I had many an interesting discussion in the Skellar with fellow students of the long hair, hippie persuasion. The Skellar was not simply a purveyor of fine spirits, but also a place for the meeting of minds. It cannot perish.

As a Penn State alum, I’ve looked forward to my annual stops at the Rathskeller the past 40+ years. My youngest son is now a sophomore at Penn State and I’d hoped it would be part of the “tradition “ I could pass on.

They say they saved it from the wrecking ball, yet they are wrecking it just as effectively with this move. Soon, there will be nothing original or independent in State College. Such progress.

This establishment was a huge part of my college experience. The memories and laughs shared are cherished greatly. Skellar is a huge part of State College history!!

I am disappointed! Not just because State College and Penn State are about to lose critical/historical landmarks but also because it feels as though the new landlords refused good faith negotiations. This is all ESPECIALLY shameful, since the company (and its food subsidiary) relied on this very same community to boost its product. Boo!
