I agree, these deer should be released and not destroyed. What are the powers to be thinking. As stated, they solve huge problems but are stumped by a few deer.

There is a close season for shooting deer and for roe deer this is,
Bucks, 1 Nov - 31 March
Does, 1 April - 31 Oct

try contacting Mike Allison at jelendeer. He has the equipment for darting and removing deer and I am sure he would be only too willing to help

I would urge the company to show an example to other big business and find a way to free these deer.Im sure in doing so it would really improve the companies image among both the local people and national.Deer can be herded in winter with a group of beaters easily,you just need a big enough amount of people and a tight beating line.

Why didn't they relocate the deer BEFORE erecting the fence?

We have a small herd of deer about the same size living in the fields near me. I see them most days when I walk my dog. As he is a border collie he occasionally tries to herd them (I stop him) but when they run they stick together as a herd and always go in the same direction, they do not scatter. Their territory is quite big but as soon as they are a safe distance away from us they tend to stop and carry on grazing, even if they are in the open in the middle of a field. Maybe the Sellafield deer "experts" should seek the assistance of a sheep farmer with a couple of trained collies. Do they have such things in Cumbria? My money is on the deer being herded through a large gap in the fence in about 10 minutes flat.

'After it emerged that their habitat had been enclosed by two new security fences'. Seems as if appropriate care was not taken at the outset in considering the effects of the fencing. My suspicion is that they went ahead anyway and said 'but now there is nothing else we can do'.

Don't be trigger happy a company like yours could afford to have these animals tranquilised and then moved to pastures new. Please reconsider.

Please don't kill every animal which displeases humans, otherwise we will have no animals left in England at all, and it will be a poorer land because of it.s
