This change would lead to many more cars on the road as parents would take kids all the way to school or at least to the bus hub on their way to work. There is already a "peak traffic" situation in Tauranga. It is inappropriate to suggest that children under 14 can supervise themselves and change buses in busy "bus hubs" when this countries law states that adequate supervision be provided by parents under this age. I do not think young children wandering around "bus hubs" eg : Bayfair meets this standard. Bayfair is already a busy crowded bus station and mall. It is not suitable for a "bus hub" as it is. There would be hundreds of children from many different schools, where would they wait, how would the traffic work with parents driving in to drop off or pick up at this hub. I can only imagine complete chaos!

I find it unbelievable that the safety of our children will be compromised for the sake of saving money. This is a shocking decision and I hope it will be reversed. If this goes ahead I am sure a lot of parents will decide to drive their kids to school instead of risking them into public transport (and thus contribute to traffic congestion). In my opinion, this is crazy. We need dedicated buses with drivers we can trust. I do not like the idea of strangers in the school bus. This decision will give more oportunities to predators to groom and abuse young children. There is also the issue of enough spaces in the Crosstown Connection service from Bayfair. How many buses will be available considering that most Papamoa and Mount kids will have to use this service to get to the school?

I am very unhappy about the school bus proposed changes. Children have a long enough day as it is - without having to wait longer. Safety is a huge issue and I do not want my girls waiting at bus stops. Should the proposed changes take place I will be driving my girls to school.

SAVE OUR SCHOOL HOPPER BUS SERVICES!!!! These proposed changes will make it so hard for so many families! The council has not considered the health & safety of our children this upsets me!

Totally against the proposed changes - will impact roads as more parents will opt to take their children to school themselves rather then putting them on public transport with random strangers - kids need to be kept in a safe environment - what price do you put on safety?? Is it $1.5m saved??

There is no benefit to the families who currently use the school bus system to change it. The disruption in this service would only force some families to no longer be able to use the service and for more cars to be on our already congested city roads. This is poor foresight on the councils part who is supposed to be here to serve the community, not their own interests.

I fully support this petition. Without dedicated school buses, there will be an increase in parents driving their children to school.

It is more comforting to know your children are catching a scheduled school bus which takes them from their stop to school with other children. There is an increased risk of harm to students catching a public bus from older passengers. Children's safety should not be sacrificed to solve an under-utilised public bus service.

I have two children currently using the school bus every school day and my youngest will hopefully be joining them in 2019.
The school bus gives the parents and students a feeling of security and reliability. Security and reliability should be the focus when questioning any changes to the school bus system.
Currently children share the bus with other students, not random strangers potentially making them feel unsafe, and public buses will not be able to consistently get the students to school on time.
That young students will need to cross busy main CBD streets to transfer buses carries enormous safety risk. If the school buses are no longer available for my children in the future, we will need to arrange car transport so that my children feel safe. I'm sure my feelings are shared by many equally concerned parents, and the car traffic to school and the associated impacts of this at school will be considerable if the school bus system disappears.
School bus system = safety and reliability. Our children deserve nothing less.

What the regional council is planning will put our school children at unnecessary risk whilst also increasing the amount of cars taking our kids to school.

I do not want my son hanging around a bus hub in the rain. I would like him to only have to get one bus to school. Keep the current system.

I want 1 bus to pick my child up and take him to school. I don't want him stressing about being safe and feeling safe on the public system.
