As of right now Southern Adventist University is considering closing the Campus Kitchen in order to make room for the culinary arts program which has less then ten people. By doing this they are eliminating a large amount of student jobs, eliminating the community that frequent the CK and ignoring the student body as a whole. The CK has become an icon of Southern, I can't tell you how many times I have met alumni coming through line to get a master burger. So if you value the CK please sign this petition and contact these people.
As far as I am told - and I don't know who allis on the Strategic Planning Committee - the people I know that are involved are: Tom Verrill (tverrill@sau), Marty Hamilton (mlhamil@sau), Doug Frood (dfrood@sau) and of course our President Gordon Bietz (bietz@sau).

As a future student, I want this opportunity to be around when I become a student there. My parents and brother, both alumni, always talk about the campus kitchen and it's wonderful atmosphere and food. Please don't make me miss out on this.
The culinary arts program can stay where they are housed, Community Church!! This is not just an eatery, it's a social center. From my research, the CK has been part of campus life for over 75 years!!
Both of my parents went to Southern in the 80s. Before I attended, they told me stories of how much they loved eating at the CK. The CK is a venue that connects alumni to current students, parents to children. It would be shame if it was taken away.
The CK isn't losing money! The Cafe is! If students choose to come to the CK instead of the Cafe than there is something wrong with the Cafe. NOT the CK! It is not fair to close it down and put students out of work.
The CK is a retail location not an educational venue. Wise up, din't reduce the economic footprint. The kids need jobs, customers enjoy the food. It's a no-brainer! Perhaps there is a win-win. Maybe it can be used after hours for culinary arts and perhaps their recipes integrated to a degree.
I worked at the Campus Kitchen when I started attending the University in 1979. When I attended again in 1985 it was open seemed was always busy. I am very disappointed that the CK has been closed since it was a nice place to eat outside of the Cafeteria.

CK provided my friends with a job that they loved and it helped them be more successful in the work force because it gave them confidence. It is a great place to eat and hangout with friends and it would be very sad to see the community lose such an awesome place.
