Why is it thought that man must be the one protected? Kill the snake: There are children around. Eliminate wolves: They threaten my livestock. Shoot any bird in the sky: It might want my chickens. If we're so amazing and supposedly the "top of the food chain", then why don't we have the sense to protect that chain? To protect all living things and respect their place in this world? How do we not see we are part of a system and that it does not exist FOR us?

Please rethink this: would you want some force to come in and rip away your home? Of course not. But that is exactly what you would be doing to many birds & animals. If a tree is diseased, that's one thing. But healthy trees should stay a living thing. Trees 'breathe' in carbon dioxide & they 'breathe' out oxygen. So please let this magnificent cottonwood continue its life without peril & death.

This tree is an icon! People come down to the San Pedro House just to visit it! It serves as a habitat for many bird and animals. Put up a permanent fence. Let it die in peace!

That tree is the centerpiece and main atraction. You absolutely can't take it down! It is also a symbol and inspiration for what the area once held.

To BLM, do NOT cut down this magnificent Cottonwood tree that has been the centerpiece at the San Pedro House for our entire lives plus many, many years. It is rare to have a cottonwood tree of this age and we need to embrace and appreciate the rare antiquity of this magnificent tree. Compassion is not being used here and it needs to be acknowledged for the resources, habitat and loving character this tree provides. So many species will be without a very important tree during their migrations as well as continuing to provide a rich history that belongs with The San Pedro House. Please make the temporary fence permanent and provide minimal trimming and building supports for this magnificent tree. Thank you.

Of course I wish you to save the tree! I had a similar disagreement with a neighbor over one of the largest trees in our neighborhood and by sending family members or friends over the fence with chainsaws onto my property when I was gone, she won. It was heartbreaking....but my tree, that tree, was not even 30 years old and still magnificent, a haven and home for wildlife and beauty and, literally, a breath of fresh air and a lift for the spirit. please leave the same Pedro house Cottonwood alone. Move the house instead.
