Here is an article by Earth Justice that can give you more information on the subject- http://earthjustice.org/blog/2015-july/america-says-yes-congress-says-no-to-protecting-endangered-species

I am very much so interested in learning more about the sage grouse. How would I go about obtaining more information about the sage grouse? Would you happen to have any journal articles (peer-reviewed or personally written ones), websites (personally created or others) or suggested documentaries to share?

It is sad that there is this much ignorance towards crucial subspecies in the United States. Hopefully, people will wake up and see how important some of these species are, but just as the saying goes, you don't know what you have until it's gone.

They oppose listing the sage grouse under the ESA because they don't want the federal government interfering with their efforts to control the drilling practices of oil companies and the grazing practices of cattle farmers. One would think that, since the States say that they agree with the goal of saving the sage grouse, they would be fine with having the force of federal government protection for their conservation efforts. There is reason though to become skeptical and question whether the States alone will be able or willing to enforce adequate conservation practices by oil companies and ranchers. If the State’s efforts prove not to be effective over time, it may end up being too late to save the sage grouse. This is one of the reasons why it is important to list the species under the ESA; to ensure that the force of federal law supports and ensures the efforts of the States.

If the western U.S. states that are home to the sage grouse really intend to do what is necessary to preserve the species, why do they oppose listing the sage grouse under the ESA?
